How to set up Gmail forwarding for directory submissions

Keep control of your registration inbox. Use a separate Gmail account for directory messages so personal mail never enters your campaign.

Before you start

SubmitSprint email receiving and forwarding verification are not active yet. These instructions explain the intended setup; do not forward mail to a reserved campaign alias until your campaign explicitly confirms that receiving is ready.

Use an inbox dedicated to directory registrations. SubmitSprint does not need your Gmail password, recovery codes or access to your personal inbox. Keep access to this account after the campaign because directories may send account-recovery messages there.

1. Get your private campaign address

Complete your product profile, create an intake campaign and open its campaign page. Once receiving is enabled, copy the full address shown there. Do not guess an address or reuse another campaign’s alias.

2. Add the address in Gmail

Open your dedicated Gmail account on a computer. Select Settings, then See all settings. Open Forwarding and POP/IMAP (sometimes named Forwarding).

Choose Add a forwarding address, paste your campaign address and follow Next, Proceed and OK. Google sends a verification message to that destination.

3. Confirm, then switch forwarding on

Adding an address does not enable forwarding. The destination must receive Google’s verification message first. SubmitSprint’s confirmation-message handling still needs to be implemented and tested; a reserved address alone cannot complete this step.

After verification is complete, refresh Gmail’s settings. Select Forward a copy of incoming mail to and choose the confirmed address. Keep Gmail’s copy in the Inbox, then select Save Changes.

4. Verify delivery before submissions start

Send a fresh test email to your dedicated Gmail inbox from another account. The campaign must show that the forwarded test arrived at the correct alias before it can be marked ready. Seeing the email in Gmail alone is not proof of forwarding.

If it does not arrive, check the destination, confirmation, forwarding selection and saved settings. Gmail does not forward spam. A Workspace administrator may also restrict forwarding. Do not keep generating directory registrations while email delivery is unresolved.

5. Stop forwarding when you finish

Return to Gmail’s Forwarding settings, select Disable forwarding and save. Retain the original inbox and any directory credentials you need.

Gmail also supports filters for selected messages. For this workflow, a dedicated inbox is simpler and avoids forwarding unrelated personal messages.
